General Summary of Position:

The Director of the Reader Family Industry Mentoring Program will design, implement, and lead a high-impact and comprehensive mentoring initiative that connects students with experienced professionals across diverse industries. A key responsibility of this role is to match students with appropriate industry mentors based on their academic interests, career goals, and professional development needs. The Director will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate partners to ensure the program enhances student career readiness, fosters interdisciplinary engagement, and supports the school’s mission of applied, industry-connected learning.

Job Duties include:

Program Development and Leadership (25%)

• Develop a long-term vision and roadmap for the mentoring program’s integration into Manning’s strategic priorities.
• Design and manage all aspects of the Reader Family Industry Mentoring Program, including strategic planning, program structure, implementation, and assessment.
• Develop and refine matching criteria to pair students with industry professionals based on major, career interests, and mentoring goals.
• Set annual goals and benchmarks for participation, impact, and program growth.
• Lead regular program evaluations and implement data-informed improvements.

Student–Mentor Matching and Support (20%)

• Assist in developing surveys and other modes to collect quality information for successful student-mentor matches.
• Oversee the mentor matching process, ensuring strong alignment between student aspirations and mentor expertise.
• Maintain records and systems to facilitate effective matches and track mentorship outcomes and progress.
• Provide ongoing support and resources to both students and mentors throughout the mentorship cycle.
• Address issues in mentorship relationships and serve as the point of contact for resolution.

Mentor Recruitment and Engagement (15%)

• Identify, recruit, and retain a diverse group of industry mentors, with a strong emphasis on alumni and advisory board members.
• Deliver onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement opportunities for mentors.
• Recognize and celebrate mentor contributions through events and communications.

Student Development (15%)

• Collaborate with the Manning School Dean’s office, faculty, advisors, and career services to identify students for the program.
• Prepare students for mentoring relationships through orientation sessions, workshops, and resources.
• Monitor student engagement and collect feedback to ensure meaningful participation and continuous improvement.

Outreach and Partnership (10%)

• Strengthen relationships with industry partners, alumni, and community organizations to expand the mentor pool.
• Serve as a liaison to faculty and student leadership organizations to promote program awareness.
• Represent the program at internal and external events to increase visibility and institutional support.

Operations and Administration (15%)

• Manage budget, scheduling, and program logistics.
• Maintain mentoring informational databases, reporting tools, and evaluation systems with appropriate confidentiality.
• Uphold university policies and ensure the program promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion by ensuring equitable access and support for all students
• Provide an annual impact report for stakeholder review.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in career services, corporate relations, higher education, or program management
  • Proven ability to design and manage matching processes or mentoring programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Passion for student success and fostering professional development

Additional Considerations:

  • Master’s degree in business, higher education administration, or related field
  • Experience working with alumni networks, advisory boards, and industry professionals in a university or business school setting
  • Knowledge of CRM (e.g., Salesforce) or mentoring platform technologies
  • Familiarity with business school operations, AACSB-accredited environments, and experiential learning models
